Create your Game to Suite Your Style

Ok. I love poker. I love it. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with this perfect game but if you ever feel like stretching your creative muscles here’s some ideas to customizing your own game.

The key rule to making your own game is to keep all the players on a fair, equal playing field. First you have to choose what type of poker you’re going to play and then decide on how many cards to use and how they will be distributed.

The easiest way to add a little mix to any game is wild cards. Winning rates should stay about the same but this will elevate your average hand strength. Aside form choosing specific cards you can also let the game play decide the wild cards. The river card could be wild or even one card could make another card wild as in Follow the Queen games for example.

Another aspect to keep in mind is to keep the game active. Why not have multiple betting rounds or add betting rounds by having players roll-out their hands.

Lastly you’ve got to name your game. This is the most important step (especially if you name it after yourself) If the version is popular you are going to want to play it again and aging and its no fun saying “hey lets play that game that we tried one time that Jim made up”

Just remember. Anything can work as long as everyone can have an equal chance to win. Get creative. Get crazy!

Whether you classify an event as a late-night poker tournament all depends on where you live and log-on. European players, for example, have all the North American daytime tournaments occurring at night. If you’re in North America though, here are my Top 5 late-night tourneys. (All these times are EST.)

1. PokerStars has its $20,000 guaranteed no-limit holdem tournament every night at 1:00 am. The buy-in is $109.

2. Full Tilt Poker has a nightly $12,000 event starting at 3:00 am. Buy-in is $109 and the game is no-limit holdem.

3. Bodog Poker has a $10,000 event starting just past midnight at 12:15 am. The buy-in for the no-limit holdem tournament is an inexpensive $55.

4. Hollywood Poker’s $108 buy-in late night event is at 4:00 am. It usually is only guaranteed for $4000, but can be much bigger.

5. PokerRoom also has a nightly $3000 no-limit holdem tournament at 5:00 am for $54, if you’re still going that early.
